In 2009, I was 29 years old and still working in the film industry when
8-year-old Tori was abducted and killed 45 minutes from my house in Toronto.
I struggled to comprehend how this child had not met the criteria for an Amber Alert. As I researched fatal child abductions, it only got worse.
The Amber Gap revealed 2 terrifying facts:
- Children abducted under these conditions would never be found alive.
- Worse, this could happen to anyone's child. At any time.
Tori's face remained etched in my memory.
I couldn't shake the confidence of her spirit in that photo, the fear and helplessness I imagined she felt right before she was robbed of her life.
As an artist, I was determined to find a way to serve children like Tori.
